Spray Tanning - Preparation & Aftercare
How to prep for the best spray tan results

When you take the time to get a spray tan, you want it to last the distance and look fabulous for as long possible.
You could get the best spray tan in the world but without the right prep, you just won’t get the results you’re looking for.
For truly glowing results, it’s all about the prep!
So how do you prepare for a spray tan?
Scrub, scrub, scrub
Your spray tan colours the top layer of skin and you need to make sure your skin has been exfoliated. Start your exfoliating regime in the week leading up to your tan to leave a perfect, smooth canvas.
Moisturise
Moisturising your body regularly in the week leading up to your tan will mean your skin is in the best condition possible for your appointment. Pay particular attention to dry areas such as elbows, hands, ankles and feet. Moisturise, moisturise and moisturise some more. Use our 3 in 1 Gradual Tan so your tan is continually being topped up and its life extended. Remember to wash your palms after use.
Hair removal ahead of time
If you’re planning to shave, wax or undergo any other hair removal, try to do it at least 24 hours before going in for your spray tan. This will give your pores times to close so your skin is ready to receive the tan.
Bare skin is best
Although moisturising your skin is important in the lead up to your tan, keep your skin free of any moisturisers, perfume or deodorant on the day. Applying products to your skin can form a barrier which means the tanning product won’t penetrate properly so leave your skin bare before going in for your appointment.
Try not to touch your skin during development time. Any marks on your hands, therefore, are due to your hands touching the developing tan. You need to be aware that once this has developed, nothing will remove it from your palms.
Come cosy
Avoid tight clothing and wear something loose and comfortable. Your tan needs time to develop. It’s also a good idea to wear dark coloured clothing – Makeup like bronzer that you will see on your skin on the day of your tan may show on lighter colours- although it wont stain your clothing

Your very first shower

The most important step after your spray tan is the shower process. Use plain water only, don’t use any shower gels, soap, scrubs, shampoos or loofer during the first 24 hours after your tan. 30 seconds to a minute rinse is plenty.
Wash your tan off at the correct time (2-5 hours after application) - This will prevent the tan drying out your skin.
Pat dry after your first shower, do not rub your skin. You can shower & dry normally the next day or in 24 hours.

After day 5, exfoliate with a light body polish on a daily basis (pick one up here at the salon) to help your skin absorb even more moisturiser and keep it looking and feeling gorgeous. Light exfoliation & daily moisturising will insure an even fade.

Long exposure to water and sweating from exercise will fade your spray tan. Your outer
cells will start to soak up water which dilutes the appearance of your tan. The longer you are in water the lighter your tan will get.
